Dr Martens shoes are very appreciated by the Punks, the students, and all those who like the alternate fashion style.

It is nevertheless surprising, then, to learn that Dr Martens was himself very far from this kind of universe.

In reality , the brand success comes from a wound while skiing, near Munich in 1945. That’s coo l!! you say !

In 1945, the German physicist Klaus Maertens (it is not a typing error, the spelling of the name is very different from the brand’s ) had ankle injury while skiing and he created his own shoes for him to wea during his healing time.

In the 1960s, these shoes were adopted by the stars of punk rock ‘n roll and especially by the skinheads as being part of their hate “uniform”. It is not because that we racist that we have to neglect our clothing appearance.

However, the style was quickly adopted by other sectors of society, such as the police and the more conventional stars such as Madonna as regards the 80s.

After a decline of sales in the 1990s, Dr Martens return to the front of the scene. Today, Dr Martens shoes are not any more the privilege of the young rebels. They became so much famous that the brand was forced to diversify its products. Now we find Dr martens sandals or ballerinas and not only the famous boots of the beginning.

The Dr Maertens family is still the owner of the brand ” Dr. Martens “, but it is the company Grigg Ltd which possesses the manufacturing and marketing license for Dr. Martens shoes.
